Ram slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4

2018-9-23 · Hi all, I have 2 x 4GB sticks of RAM connected currently in DIMM slots 1 and 3 (1 being closest to the CPU). BIOS can see the 8GB, as can windows but in resource manager it's telling me that 4gb is hardware reserved, so only 4GB is 'usable'.

So my XPS 8700 came with 2 4gb RAM sticks, installed in slots 1 and 2 for a total of 8gb memory. I installed 2 8gb sticks in slots 3 and 4 yesterday. My system shows 24gb installed, but only 16gb usable. So I tried installing the 8gb sticks in slots 1 and 2, and the 4gb sticks in slots 3 and 4. Same result. Shouldn't the entire 24gb be usable.

They currently reside in slot 1 and 2 but I want to know if anyone runs them in slot 3 and 4 instead. According to the manual it is OK but I wrote MSI tech support and they suggested I keep them in slots 1&2 but I could run them in slots 3&4 but IF I -3 Memory Slots?
